Winehouse pleads guilty to assault

Amy Winehouse pleaded guilty to a charge of common assault at Milton Keynes Magistrates' Court yesterday afternoon. The Back To Black singer was accused of assaulting a theatre manager during a performance of Cinderella in Buckinghamshire before Christmas.

La Winehouse, who had to make her way through a media scrum to enter the courthouse, was ordered to pay £100 in damages to Richard Pound the theatre manager and victim of the assault. In addition the London singer was handed a two year conditional discharge.

'Mr Pound is a person whose job involves interaction with the public. If he's assaulted he deserves the court's protection,' District judge Peter Crabtree told Winehouse. 'In this case it's obvious that alcohol played its part.'

The incident itself took place back on December 19 before Winehouse was arrested on December 23 after handing herself into Milton Keynes police station.
