Tulisa and Cheryl close friends despite media speculation

New X Factor judge Tulisa Contostavlos has told BBC's Newsbeat that she hopes to find time to catch up with her predecessor Cheryl Cole.

Speaking ahead of the Pride of Britain Awards, which both singers attended, the N-Dubz singer told reporters that 'I haven't seen Cheryl in a long while so it would be great to see her.'

Tulisa continued: 'There'll be a cuddle, a conversation, we'll have a glass of wine and have a chat.'

The pair have been painted as rivals in the tabloid press ever since Tulisa replaced Cheryl as a judge on the X Factor.

However, despite the media speculation it appears that the two singers have been able to forge a solid friendship.

Tulisa has become an instant hit with X Factor fans during her first year on the hit reality show alongside fellow new judges Gary Barlow and Kelly Rowland.

The trio have managed to revitalise the format while proving the that many doubters who thought the show would struggle without Cole, Dannii Minogue and Simon Cowell were wrong.

Cheryl, who wowed the assembled crowds at the Pride of Britain awards with her pink Victoria Beckham dress, again made it clear that she had no regrets about quitting the X Factor UK to try her luck on the US version.

The Girls Aloud singer was later dropped and replaced by Pussy Cat Dolls singer Nicole Scherzinger but has maintained that she 'didn't do regrets'.

Cole has been repeatedly linked with a return to the X Factor ahead of the live shows with the internet rumour mill suggesting Tulisa was set for the chop.

However, speaking recently to the Sun the N-Dubz singer said that 'I can 100 per cent reassure fans I'll be sitting in that judge's chair in the final.'

Tulisa added that she had spoken to Cole about the increased media profile that comes with presenting the X Factor.

'Cheryl and I talk and laugh at the rumours about her. We've sat down and had the conversation at her birthday party. People are going to make up rumour after rumour. It's been intense.'
