The King of Pop dies

In case you haven't seen a single flash of media or heard a single word around the water cooler this morning, the King of Pop has died. Michael Jackson suffered a massive cardiac arrest at his home last night, before being taken to hospital where doctors tried in vain to resuscitate him for over an hour. He passed away in the early hours of the morning, with his brother Jerome Jackson confirming the sad news in a statement to the press. Although speculation is mounting as to the cause of death (overdose from painkillers, the stress of tour rehearsals etc) nothing will be confirmed until an autopsy has been performed.

Jackson is survived by 3 children; Michael Joseph Jackson Junior, Paris Michael Katherine Jackson and Prince "Blanket" Michael Jackson II as well as an army of international fans, many of whom have been gathering outside the LA hospital where he died in order to pay their respects. Tributes to the star have also been pouring in from fellow celebs, with Madonna saying "The world has lost one of the greats, but his music will live on forever!" and Quincy Jones (the music producer who helped launch Michael's solo career) saying: "he had it all - talent, grace, professionalism and dedication. I've lost my little brother today, and part of my soul has gone with him."

While the last years of Jackson's private life and career have been dogged by controversy, the internet promises to be burning up with videos of his most iconic performances for months to come. Here's one such moment.
