The Equalizer R.I.P.

Acclaimed Brit actor Edward Woodward has died at the Royal Cornwall Hospital today at the age of 79. An agent of the BAFTA & Golden Globe awarding winning actor confirmed the sad news and said he had been suffering from pneumonia.

‘Universally loved and admired through his unforgettable roles in classic productions he was equally fine and courageous in real life, never losing his brave spirit and wonderful humour throughout his illness,’ read the statement from his agent Janet Glass.

Famous for numerous acting roles over the years including playing Sergeant Howie in cult horror flick ‘The Wicker Man’ and starring in US TV series The Equalizer, Woodward was most recently seen on UK telly playing Tommy Clifford in BBC soap Eastenders.

He also starred in Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright’s film ‘Hot Fuzz.’ Wright posted a tribute on social networking site Twitter:

‘Just lost someone who was a dream to work with and was very dear to me.’

‘Sorry to hear we’ve lost the great Edward Woodward. Feel lucky to have worked with him. Sgt. Howie, Tom Weaver, we will miss you’ read Pegg’s tweet.
