Stallone to remake Death Wish

Fresh – if that’s the right word – from a new version of Get Carter and additions to the Rambo and Rocky series, Sylvester Stallone is to star in a remake of 1974’s Death Wish. Original director Michael Winner – yes, he of “calm down, dear” TV ad fame – followed the deeply nasty yet successful vigilante flick with the towering achievement of “Won Ton Ton, The Dog Who Saved Hollywood”, and later made Death Wish 2 and 3 before handing over the reins for the fourth and fifth in the series.

Sly’s retread will be released in 2009. Even if you’re not a fan, take comfort in this: he’d have to try very, very hard to make something worse than the original.
