Spice Girls: the verdict

The Spice Girls made their debut performance in Vancouver to thousands of screaming fans last night. The girls, clad in costumes designed by Roberto Cavalli, sung and danced their way through the two-hour long show featuring 22 of their songs, nine of them number one singles. But was it any good?

Er…yes and no. Reviews ranged from the damning: “embarrassing and lucklustre” to rather better with the Vancouver Sun reporting that the fabulous five “delivered the Spice”.

But while the reviews may have been lukewarm, the fans were certainly impressed with the spectacle, some so emotional that they spent most of the show in floods of tears.

"I can't believe I’m here but it was so worth it. It has been a lifelong dream of mine," said one Spice acolyte. So no Nobel prize then?  Alfred Nobel/Geri Halliwell - all the same really…

It looks like even if critics weren’t completely blown away, the quintet definitely wowed the crowds.  So for all those die-hard Spice Girls fans, you’re going to be in for a real zigazig-ah! Just bring some tissues…
