For all of those people who are falling straight into the mob mentality trap – people who were barely a glint in their middle class parent’s eye when Thatcher left power, here’s an eye opener from one of Margaret Thatcher’s most vocal enemies - Sex Pistol Johnny Rotten – aka John Lydon.

Lydon spoke out against those celebrating Mrs Thatchers demise – describing the wide eyed jubilance as ‘loathsome’.

Lydon went on to say ‘Her politics were really dreadful and derisive and caused a great many issues for me when I was young, for all of us trying to go through that.

'But that don't mean I am gonna dance on her grave, as they say. I'm not that kind of person.

'I was her enemy in her life but I will not be her enemy in her death. I am not a coward.'

He added: 'My entire life, socially, was all around the Maggie era.

'That was the great challenge as a Sex Pistol was how to deal with Margaret Thatcher.

'I think we did rather good.'

There is a dangerous current working its way through the left at the moment that has turned into active bullying of people who are not unquestioningly over the moon that someone has died. But as Russell Brand wisely pointed out in yesterday’s Guardian

“I suppose, that if you opposed Thatcher's ideas it was likely because of their lack of compassion, which is really just a word for love. If love is something you cherish, it is hard to glean much joy from death, even in one's enemies.”

“Perhaps, though, Thatcher "the monster" didn't die yesterday from a stroke, perhaps that Thatcher died as she sobbed self-pitying tears as she was driven, defeated, from Downing Street, ousted by her own party, ” he added.

It is indeed a worrying moment when matters have descended way beyond a movement to set the negative aspects to a legacy in the proper context before history is written by the other side. There is a huge difference between protest, even sheer unadulterated bitterness – and joy. The irony is just as Mr Brand describes
