Sex and the City prequel gets the go-ahead

Fans of Sex and the City rejoice: a US network has just ordered a pilot for a prequel series, based on the The Carrie Diaries book by Candace Bushnell.

The series is expected to follow a young Carrie Bradshaw before her move to the Big Apple, tracking her life and love during her time as a Connecticut high school student.

Samantha Jones, played by Kim Cattrall in the original series and films, is also expected to feature in the series.

But all eyes will be on who lands the role as the young Carrie. Miley Cyrus, Emma Roberts and Chloe Moretz have all been linked with the series.

However the forerunner at the moment is Gossip Girl star Blake Lively, 24.

Miley Cyrus, who had a cameo in Sex and the City 2, has publicly declared that she wants the role.

"I would love it. I’m not attached, so I don’t want to say that, but that would be very cool," she told Access.

Gossip Girl producers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage are also said to have signed up to the show.
