Rihanna won't play Whitney - yet
Rihanna has scotched rumours that she will be playing Whitney Houston in a proposed biopic. Although it would have been delicious to see how the singer would portray a global superstar embroiled in an abusive relationship, it’s not going to happen. At least not any time soon.
"It was just rumours," Rihanna told MTV, "I never heard anything about that. She did say that Houston had been an inspiration to her, naming I Will Always Love You as her favourite song of all time. "It was really inspiring," she said, "and it made me develop a passion for music, so really, she's partly responsible for me being here in this industry."
Music might not be the only industry she thrives in. Despite the Houston non-starter, Rihanna is developing a lucrative sideline in movie roles. After appearing as one of the few redeeming features of the drab Battleship, she has a role as a villain in the new Fast And The Furious film. A source told The Sun: "The writers think she’ll be perfect for the role. Her character has plenty of bite and doesn’t take any prisoners — just like her in real life. It’s a step up the ladder for her and could lead to bigger action roles."
The film, the sixth in the frankly-repetitive action franchise, will be shooting over the summer at locations in London and Southend. So yes, if anyone asks, that is Rihanna having a stroll by the pier or playing the penny cascade machines in the amusement arcades.
