Ricky Whittle survives the Strictly axe

Ricky Whittle had a narrow escape from the Strictly Come Dancing axe last night just a day after he was released on bail following his arrest for alleged assault.

There was no mention of the incident by the judges, however, Whittle, favourite to win the competition, was roundly criticized for his sub par performance.

The Hollyoaks actor received coaching from Happy Days star Henry Winkler in a rock and roll themed night, but made a number of mistakes during his routine.

The public agreed with the judges and Whittle was forced to take part in a dance-off with former Eastenders star Natalie Cassidy. However, it was Cassidy and her partner Vincent Simone who were eventually given the chop.

Whittle was arrested for alleged assault following a bust up outside a Liverpool nightclub in the early hours of Saturday morning but a BBC spokesperson last night confirmed that the Hollyoaks actor would continue to compete in the competition as normal.
