Raging Against The Machine

For five years - that's half a whole decade, the UK’s Christmas No 1 has been monopolised by Simon Cowell’s X-Factor juggernaut. In protest at this popatorship a Facebook-led campaign to make Rage Against The Machine’s 'Killing In The Name Of' number one is causing quite a stir, especially with SyCo himself; he has hit back calling it ‘stupid’.

Talking at a press conference for the impending X-Factor final (this weekend if you don't consume any media), the talent spotting judge said: 'I think the campaign is aimed directly at me - it's stupid. Everyone has this slightly distorted image of Christmas No1s being incredible. There was that ghastly Cliff Richard thing a few years ago and Bob The Builder. We haven't exactly taken away anything special.’

He added: ‘I think it's quite a cynical campaign geared at me that is actually going to spoil the party for these three finalists. I also think it's incredibly dismissive of the people who watch and enjoy the show when they treat our audience as if they're stupid. I don't like that.’
