Puurr-fect set-up

There’s nothing quite like young people taking drugs to get the tabloids into a frenzy of moral panicking, whipping up scare stories and telling parents that their children will die if they take said substance, for sure. Then they’ll try and find a famous person – preferably one with young kids in their fan base – doing the drug, so they can force to them to make an apology that they don’t really mean.

This time it’s bad-hatted Dappy from N-Dubz, who makes anyone who doesn’t like them feel very old indeed. The rapper was caught on CCTV in a nightclub taking the legal – remember that – drug mephedrone, otherwise known as meow meow, and has now had to pretend to his fans that he’s sorry. Drugs are bad, mmmmkay?

‘I was taking meow meow. I was on a night out with mates and it got a bit rowdy,’ said Dappy to the accusing Sun. ‘Meow meow was legal then and lots of my mates were taking it too. I know this drug has now been made illegal and would not endorse any of our fans taking it.

‘I said recently that I hadn't touched serious drugs for years and maybe that wasn't completely true. But I now want people to realise how dangerous mephedrone and similar drugs can be. It can ruin lives. I'd want any of our fans to stay well clear. I've learned my lesson and I hope others will too.’
