90s one hit wonders

The 90s was a period that brought us Oasis vs Blur and a Beatles revival but it’s also responsible for one hit wonders like Rednex’s “Cotton Eye Joe”. The band’s band dancing bouncy dance tune was on every radio station throughout the summer of 1994.

Stereo MCs were onto their third album when they came up with their one hit wonder “Connected” which was released in September 1992. They supported the Happy Mondays for a while then disappeared without a trace.

In the 1990s Jimmy Ray asked: “Are You Jimmy Ray?”. For a while we listened but not for long as the British rockabilly musician dropped without a trace after supporting the Back Street Boy’s US tour.

Stiltskin’s “Inside” was attached to a Levi commercial which is why it gained popularity and perhaps why it sank without trace. Only the bands’ vocalist Ray Wilson found any success after this hit as he joined Genesis for a short while.

“Hotstepper” by Jamaican dance star Ini Kamoze brought him lots of fame in 1995 but by 1996 he was long forgotten. Nowadays the singer’s approaching 60 years old and apparently is more than happy to posing like a gangster for fans. What a man!
