Pattinson denies Hunger Games rumours
It seems like starring in one teen frenzy franchise is sufficient for Robert Pattinson. The Twilight star has denied that he will be appearing in the sequel to the latest box-office adolescent catnip The Hunger Games.
Strong rumours had linked Pattinson with the role of Finnick Odair, a character not a million miles away from Pattinson’s Twilight role, in the sequel Catching Fire. Pattinson even began to wonder if it was already a done deal.
"I woke up this morning and saw all these things about me being cast in The Hunger Games," he told USA Today. "I was kind of curious for a second. So I called my agent and he was like, 'No . . . .no one's going to offer you that part'."
The Hunger Games was such a massive box-office hit that there is some urgency to cash in while the franchise is hot. The initial director Gary Ross is no longer attached to the project. Francis Lawrence, the director of I Am Legend, has taken over. Shooting starts in the autumn with a target release date in time for the Christmas 2013 season.
Pattinson has recently starred in David Cronenberg’s Cosmopolis which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, to mixed reviews. Pattinson is working on another film with the controversial director, as well as shooting a biopic about The Band, the bunch of musicians who collaborated with Bob Dylan in the 1960s and 70s.
The Band are revered by music fans of a certain age. Maybe Pattinson’s involvement could introduce them to a whole new generation.
