Patrick Swayze loses battle with cancer

Patrick Swayze, one of the world's best loved hearthrobs (and all round nice guy) has lost his battle with cancer. The 57 year old passed away last night with his family at his side after a 2 year fight against pancreatic cancer. He is survived by childhood sweetheart and wife of 32 years Lisa Niemi.

A host of celebrities have paid tribute to the star who shot to fame as irresistible badboy Johnny Castle in the 1987 classic Dirty Dancing. Jennifer Gray, his co-star in Dirty Dancing (and the woman he said 'noone puts baby in the corner' to - sigh) said: "when I think of him, I think of being in his arms when we were kids, dancing, practicing the lift in the freezing lake, having a blast doing this tiny little movie we thought no one would ever see. Patrick was a rare and beautiful combination of raw masculinity and amazing grace. My heart goes out to his wife and childhood sweetheart, Lisa Niemi, to his mom, Patsy, and to the rest of their family."

Demi Moore, his co-star in tear jerker, Ghost echoed those sentiments: "Patrick, you are loved by so many and your light will forever shine in all of our lives. In the words of Sam to Molly. 'It's amazing Molly. The love inside, you take it with you.' I will miss you."

2009 has been a year of celebrity passings, and it's saddening to think of a committed good guy like Patrick Swayze joining the list. Swayze worked tirelessly for charity and environmental causes and famously said that he thought paying Hollywood actors huge salaries was 'raping the industry and taking food out of the mouths of people.' (A-listers, take note.) In homage to the dancing legend, check IT out below. If you to ask which scene then you're not a girl and Dirty Dancing isn't your favourite film. Sadly.
