Norway win the Eurovision Song Contest

Norway won the Eurovision Song Constest last night in Moscow with favourite Alexander Rybak picking up a record 387 points for his song 'Fairytale'.

Russia is reported to have splashed out over €31 million in staging the competition and the lavish production was, in true Eurovision style, unnecessarily over the top.

Jade Ewen, representing the UK with an Andrew Lloyd Webber song, finished in a credible (if that word can be applied to the Eurovision) fifth position.

While there was much talk about a new voting system the real story was Graham Norton taking over the commentary from Terry Wogan who stepped down after 35-years of poking fun at the terrible music and kitsch outfits. Norton was funny, but he just isn't in the same league as Wogan when it comes to sardonic lampooning.
