Why No One Wants to Work with Meghan Markle

The British press doesn't have the power they did when Harry's mum Diana was around, but they can still make a celeb's life a living hell. Meghan Markle also has to face criticism from social media too. Meghan uses her position to fight against hate speech and misinformation online which doesn't make her popular with the trolls who love to bring people down. She's also not that popular with those who work for her. And the rumours of the way she treated palace workers never went away. Let's sift through the noise to find out exactly what's true.

The key to getting on with people is communication. There's probably an argument to be made that Meghan should re-evaluate the way she approaches those who work for her. The issues she had dealing with the staff at the palace in the UK could partly be blamed on the cultural differences as an "impolite tone" appears to be part of the problem. This quote from royal expert Katie Nicholl told Yahoo's Royal Box suggests that. "[Meghan] got very upset when she felt that she could taste egg in a dish when she was told there was no egg, and she said, 'No, I can taste it, I can taste there's egg in this dish',". Of course, this is not a direct quote. It's gossip. There's nothing wrong with the words Meghan used. The accusation here is that her tone was inappropriate. Again, let's give Meghan the benefit of the doubt. Perhaps palace staff are a little too sensitive.

Devils in the details

Another thing she's accused of is paying too much attention to the details. This is usually a positive attribute, so how come it's been spun against her? The accusation is that she's obsessive about the details and goes too far when striving for perfection. Again, there's no factual information to support this theory, only rumours. When Meghan and Harry tied the knot in 2018, she's rumoured to have insisted on air fresheners for St George's Chapel. We have the Daily Mail to thank for the quote backing that up – "Apparently Meghan didn't like the smell of the chapel, which, as you would expect, is a little musty. It's not unpleasant at all, though."

Everyone prefers Kate

The rumour that everyone prefers Kate Middleton over Meghan Markle isn't necessarily true, but it may be a perception. If so, that's good enough to make Meghan's time at the palace harder than necessary. People Magazine quoted an unnamed source who told them palace staff "might not be used to the 'say-it-as-you-see-it' American mentality." We've also read that she doesn't like hearing the word "no". The same source said, "The most difficult job in the royal family is to work with Meghan's ambitions and make them realizable. She will get frustrated if she is told, 'You can't do this or can't do that."

Wait, what?

The story that Meghan mistreated one of Kate Middleton's staffers made big headlines in late 2018. Kate apparently reprimanded Meghan for her behaviour. No one knows what happened behind closed doors, but the rumours are that Meghan was shouting at the staff member to a point at which Kate felt she had no choice but to step in. If that's true, this type of behaviour is unbecoming of a member of the royal family.

Hollywood Agent

In 2019, another unnamed source told The Sun that Meghan's still working with her Hollywood agent. Apparently, she's using their connections to help with a children's book she's writing. The Sun's insider said, "As a full-time member of the Royal Family, it would be the expectation for that type of work to be exclusively handled by Palace staff who balance individual desire over what's right for the wider institution." The suggestion here is that she's too selfish to be part of the royal family.

Harry's not helping

The one person in Meghan's life who could steer her away from trouble is not helping her. The rumours suggest that he's her biggest enabler. Apparently, he turns a blind eye to her behaviour. In the Express, another unnamed source said, "Harry won't take any criticism of Meghan, and he is so sensitive that he often sees criticism or negativity when there isn't any."

Unnamed sources

Let's summarise what we "know" about Meghan. She's apparently a poor communicator who's very demanding. She's a perfectionist who's not as popular as Kate Middleton. She's retained her Hollywood agent, and her husband hasn't helped her adjust to palace life. All of these things are rumours. There's really no way of knowing the truth. Anything Meghan says will be denied or, at the very least, not corroborated by anyone other than her husband, and the British press will continue to find unnamed sources to back up the narrative they want to pursue. Thankfully for Meghan and her husband, they've escaped the UK, so hopefully, the press will back off them.
