Music’s cash cows

The highest-earning women in music have been revealed. So who has most notes? Proving she is still the Queen of Pop, Madonna comes in first place, having earned a massive $72 million last year - proof that hard work and little else goes a long way.

You’ve also got to wonder, where did train-wreck Britney Spears end up? Driving round petrol stations and eating burritos surely can’t earn her much dosh… Or did it? Well, Miss Spears features at 14 on the list, still managing to earn $8 million last year. How? Well, she still has quite a substantial back catalogue to earn from and her Curious fragrance had surprisingly good sales. Making yourself into a global brand is also the other wise move. It’s almost certainly why Beyonce and Gwen Stefani feature at numbers 5 and 6 on the list.
