Mila Kunis recieves anti semitic abuse in native Ukraine

Mila Kunis – Hollywood actress, current squeeze of Demi Moore divorcing beau Ashton Kutchner, holder of a clutch of ‘World’s Sexiest Woman’ titles and the voice of Meg Griffin in Family Guy was on the receiving end of a rather nasty ethnic slur from the Ukraine.

If we went about reporting on what a minor Kazakhstani politician thought of Cheryl Cole or what the current view of Lindsay Lohan happened to be in Vladivostok – then this website may start to drown in a sea of Cyrillic abuse. The only real sting in this tale is the fact that Mila happens to have been born in Ukraine. And the currency of anti Semitism in populist politics in the former Eastern Bloc.

Ukrainian politician Igor Miroschnichenko reportedly referred to the Ted star as a "zhydovka"—which translates to "dirty Jewess"—in a recent Facebook post.

The Simon Wiesenthal Center, one of the most prominent human-rights advocates for the Jewish community, was outraged and lost no time in taking action. In doing so, they probably publicised the whole affair way more than if they had just dismissed it as the unpleasant ramblings of a bigoted thug. However as we know from experience – sometimes all it takes is a bigoted thug and a soapbox to end up in the ashes of genocide.

In a letter to Prime Minister Mykola Azarov, two rabbis from the Center called upon the prime minister to "speak out against the heinous anti-Semitic slur directed at Ukrainian-born actress Mila Kunis by MP Igor Miroshnichenko" and to "publicly condemn this attack and to take the measures to defeat the xenophobic forces that threaten your democracy."

"Mila Kunis' family, like many thousands of other Ukrainian Jewish families, left the Ukraine in the first place because of anti-Semitism," they go on to say.

"Today she is a respected American actress, who is now owed an apology by the Ukraine. It is a tragedy that even after the Holocaust and the demise of the Soviet Union such hatred and anti-Semitism is still a force in the mainstream of your country."
