Michael Jackson given celebrity send-off

Michael Jackson was given a mammoth celebrity send-off last night in the Staples Centre in Los Angeles. The King of Pop's gold plated coffin was greeted by tens of thousands of screaming fans following a private funeral for friends and family at the Forest Lawn Cemetery.

An estimated global audience of seven billion tuned into watch Mariah Carey, Jennifer Hudson, Brooke Shields, Stevie Wonder, Lionel Richie and Smokey Robinson, amongst others, perform and lead tributes to the 50-year-old singer.

The stage at the Staples Centre was adorned with an image of the man behind the moon-walk as well as a mural with the words: "In Loving Memory - Michael Jackson King of Pop – 1958-2009." The centre was packed by thousands of fans who had won tickets for the service.
