Meet the parents

Russell Brand has taken the first big step with his new missus Katy Perry – meeting the parents. This is a traumatic enough experience for most blokes, but for Brand he had to deal with the fact his randy missus’ folks are hardcore Christian Pastors, who want him to ‘go towards the light and not towards the darkness, only God can take the very worst person and turn them around for good.’ Eep.

Keith and Mary Hudson are travelling evangelists who give sermons all over the United States, and they are desperate for Brand to see the light, and for Katy to stop being such a smokin’ hot saucepot. Don’t listen to ‘em Katy.

‘You just have to see how the Lord's will is done,’ said Mary. ‘I mean, how many times have your kids disappointed you so profoundly that you wanted to get up from the chair and knock them out? (Um, never? – Ed.)

‘There are parts of Russell's book where he's really hungry for positive influences in his life. I think the two of them are hungry. They are basically looking for God and they are seeking the truth - and they are going to find it.’

‘We all have a past,’ said a slightly more conciliatory Papa Perry. ‘I was in the Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin era, and I used to take LSD. He’s got a real spiritual hunger. Russell really likes us because he has a whole new different concept on Christianity now that he has met us.

‘People say: What do you think about Katy? Aren't you ashamed? Why did Katy sing that song, I Kissed A Girl? And I say, “I don't know. Why does a duck stand on one leg and go quack? I don't know”. I don't know about kissing a girl, but I kissed God and liked it better.’ They look like a good match, do they not?
