Matt Smith to quit Dr Who for Hollywood?

Matt Smith is set to quit his role as Doctor Who and attempt to launch a Hollywood career according to rumours circulating the blogosphere this morning.

The 27-year-old took from David Tennant as the Doctor earlier this year but is alleged to have told close friends that he plans to leave the show after the second series and instead try to forge a career in America.

Smith is currently filming a Christmas special for the hit BBC sci-fi show which will feature veteran actor Michael Gambon while work on the second series is set to start in the next month.

An unnamed friend told The Sun that Smith is hoping to move his acting career to the next level: ‘Matt plans to quit after the next series. He is eager to try new things and thinks Hollywood beckons.’

Smith’s Doctor has been well received since he took over from the universally popular Tennant and it would be a hammer blow to the BBC if he decided to walk away from the cult series.
