Martina Hingis booted off Strictly Come Dancing

Former tennis player and nose whiz lover Martina Hingis became the first contestant to be voted off this year's edition of Strictly Come Dancing. The 1997 Wimbledon champion lost out to Crimewatch presenter Rav Wilding in a dance-off.

"It was a great experience, I learned so much", Hingis said afterwards. "I wish it would continue but here we are. Maybe I will come back for a few more lessons to London." Saturday's show was the first time in the new series that the Strictly contestants had faced the public vote.

Despite gaining the support of judges Bruno Tonioli and Craig Revel Horwood, both Alesha Dixon and chief judge Len Goodman backed Rav. Half of the show's celebrity contestants busted a move this week including EastEnders actor Ricky Groves, BBC sports reporter Chris Hollins, athlete Jade Johnson, boxer Joe Calzaghe, actress Ali Bastian and Lynda Bellingham. The remaining Z-listers will parade their wares next week.
