Malaria-hit Cheryl Cole to miss the X Factor

Cheryl Cole has been forced to pull out of the X Factor’s boot camp stage as she battles to recover from malaria. The 27-year-old singer contracted the disease during a trip to Tanzania with her alleged boyfriend and backing dancer Derek Hough.

Cole spent the weekend in intensive care and is currently being treated in a private London clinic as she tries to recover from the tropical disease. An ITV spokesperson announced earlier today that Cole would miss the start of the new series of X Factor: ‘Our priority is to ensure Cheryl is fit and well before she returns to work and to give our contestants a fair and proper opportunity to compete in the show.’

Cole’s enforced absence has left Simon Cowell with a headache as fellow judge Dannii Minogue will also miss the start of the new X Factor series after giving birth to a baby boy. Both Geri Halliwell and Natalie Imbruglia have recently been used as replacements for Minogue but neither went down well with the public. It remains to be seen who will fill Cole and Minogue’s boots.

Hopefuls should send their CV to Simon Cowell care of ITV.
