Lindsay Lohan back in police custody

Lindsay Lohan was taken back into police custody yesterday after an LA court ruled that she had violated the terms of her probation.

The troubled actress was escorted out of the courthouse in handcuffs after judge Stephanie Sautner ruled that the 25-year-old actress had broken the conditions of her probation after failing to complete a community service programme.

Judge Suatner remarked that Lohan had committed numerous violations after she being put on probation earlier this year for drink-driving and then stealing a necklace.

The judge also pointed out that Lohan had failed to complete the 360 hours of community service at the Downtown Women's Centre with the actress skipping appointments and leaving before her shift was finished.

'We're dealing with someone on probation. Most people on probation don't always do things perfectly,' Lohan's lawyer told the court, but his plea for clemency was in vain.

The Mean Girls actress left the court in tears but was later released on bail. Lohan is due to return to court on November 2 when it will be decided if she should return to jail.

However, judge Sautner made it clear in court that a return to prison is a distinct possibility for the former child actress: 'If jail meant something in the state of California now, maybe I'd put her in jail.'

A spokesperson for Lohan was more hopeful of the outcome: 'Lindsay is hoping this matter will be resolved on November 2 and the court will reinstate probation and allow her to continue fulfilling her community service.'

Lohan has been jailed three times over the last few years and it seems increasingly likely that the 25-year-old could be back eating porridge again in the near future.
