King's Speech wins Oscar crown

If you found The King's Speech a pro-monarchy English Heritage piece of gubbins, then look away now. The Brit film won every gong going at the Oscars, even picking up a surprise Best Director statue for Tom Hooper. Natalie Portman bagged Best Actress for her role in Black Swan.

Accepting his best actor award, Colin told the Oscar audience, 'I’ve a feeling my career’s just peaked.' Firth thanked 'all the people who have been routing for me back home,' and his wife Livia, 'for putting up with my fleeting delusions of royalty.'

Meanwhile, Natalie Portman gave a classically gushing acceptance speech, saying, 'I want to thank my parents. First and foremost for giving me my life. And for the opportunity to work at such a young age.' She also gave a shout-out to, '...my beautiful love Benjamin Millepied who choreographed the film and has now given me my most important role of my life.'
