Katy Perry pulls out of awards ceremony

Katy Perry has told her fans that she will not be appearing at the People's Choice Awards tomorrow night.

The singer has been nominated in seven categories, including Favourite Pop artist, Favourite Female artist and Favourite song of the year.

On Monday Perry tweeted: "Unfortunately I will not be able to attend the People's Choice Awards. I want to thank u all for voting for me, fingers crossed! #KATYCATS"

Last week it was rumoured that her soon-to-be ex husband Russell Brand had been uninvited from the awards to prevent any awkwardness on the red carpet.

Both Perry and Brand have maintained a dignified silence over their recent split.

Perry tweeted a message of thanks to her supporters, saying: "I am so grateful for all the love and support I've had from people around the world. You guys have made my heart happy again."

She also warned them not to listen to rumours regarding the break up, and took a thinly veiled swipe at her parents who have spoken publicly about their opinions on the marriage.

"Concerning the gossip, I want to be clear that NO ONE speaks for me. Not a blog, magazine, 'close sources' or my family."

Brand announced on 30 December that he was filing for divorce, saying: "Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage. I'll always adore her and I know we'll remain friends."

It's likely that Katy will stay in the $6.5 million Hollywood Hills mansion that they bought a few months ago and Russell will move out.
