Twitter - sometimes we think it was created as a platform for celebrities to make pompous fools of themselves. The latest pair to fall out via the medium of blogging in 140 characters, are Demi Moore and Kim Kardashian.
Kim, attending a charity event in Miami, posted a picture with the caption: 'Big pimpin w @SerenajWilliams @LaLaVazquez @Kelly_Rowland Love u girls!' An affronted Demi asked Kim: 'Are you using the word 'pimpin' as in pimping?', to which Kardashian replied: 'Doesn't everyone? LOL.' But Demi was certainly not LOLing at the use of the word, replying: 'No disrespect I love a girls night out but a pimp and pimping is nothing more than a slave owner!'
A Demi follower then added their tuppence worth, tweeting: 'She may have meant it in the 'NEW AGE LINGO' - as in 'pimpin' = Cool?' Not cool. Moore retaliated with: 'Yeah but a pimp is nothing more than a slave owner! If we want to end slavery we need to stop glorifying the 'pimp culture' and then 'Clearly I stirred up a s**t storm, but 2 create change U have 2 be willing 2 take a risk and be willing 2 provoke thought & conversation.'
Finally, perhaps feeling that she'd shown her age by getting all ranty about the use of (admittedly fairly crass) language, she ended with the conciliatory: 'Nothing wrong with dancing to Big Pimpin' by Jay Z in the club! Having a girls night out, gotta love that song!
Phew! Though surely the blame for the twitter storm should lie at the feet of Jay-Z for penning the song in the first place...
