Judi Dench films death scene for M

Dame Judi Dench will say farewell to the Bond franchise, with a death scene planned for her character M. The latest film Skyfall, directed by Sam Mendes, will be Dench’s last, according to stories from the set.

The movie website Best For Film had a quote from an insider on the set who told them: "We’ve just filmed M’s death scene. Judi Dench is leaving the franchise." There aren’t any details about the script and how M meets her end. There is a possibility that several possible death scenes have been filmed to prevent details leaking out.

Dame Judi has been a key part of the Bond series since 1995 when she first played M, in Goldeneye. Recent health problems have provoked rumours that she would not be making any more Bond films after Skyfall, the 23rd film to feature the 007 character, although it wasn’t clear whether the character would be killed off.

It has already emerged that Ralph Fiennes will take on the role of M after Dame Judi leaves, although the actor didn’t confirm the story. The 77 year-old actress has spoken in the past about her enjoyment of the Bond movies. "I do enjoy playing M as she is such a strong character. I like being bossy and my grandson thinks its cool that I'm in Bond."

She took on a new role off-screen recently, when she was appointed as honorary patron of the football club Everton’s community charity. Skyfall is due for release in the autumn.
