Jools Holland in New Year shocker

As if it wasn’t enough that we have suffered Blue Peter’s phony phone-in/kitten-naming scandals, yet another instance of TV trickery has come to our attention recently… the fact that Jools Holland’s Hootenanny, with its carousing celebs and countdown, isn’t in fact filmed on Hogmanay at all, but a few weeks earlier.

This is presumably in order to allow said celebrities to spend their real New Year doing something that they actually enjoy, instead of sitting around in a studio wearing rictus grins as Jools tinkles on the ivories. Or maybe they just sit at home watching their pre-recorded selves having “fun” on the telly. Who knows? Anyway, the shock of discovering this latest piece of deception shows no signs of abating. Oh, and for those who have spent years wondering what a “Hootenanny” actually is, we can now exclusively reveal that it is an old country word meaning “party”. So there.
