The Jimmy Savile abuse scandal continues to shock and appall the British public as the latest round of reports have been released. Investigations at Leeds General Infirmary and Broadmoor have shed light on some of Savile's scandalous behaviour as he abused "unrestricted access" privileges as a volunteer porter completely and utterly.

More than 60 individuals shared with investigators their accounts of abuse at Savile's hands. The victims included staff members as well as patients. It seems that Savile did not discriminate a whole lot in his victim selection as he is reported to have abused children as young as 5 years of age as well as people as old as 75.

Allegations range in terms of severity from lewd sexual remarks, serious sexual assaults and even three cases of rape. Savile targeted many children as they lay in hospital beds with a 10 year old boy being abused as he waited for an x-ray on a trolley in a corridor. The report also reveals that he performed acts of a sexual nature on corpses in the hospital mortuary and he even posed for photographs while doing it.

Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt has made an official apology to Savile's victims saying "We let them down badly. Today's report shows that in reality he was a sickening and prolific sexual abuser who repeatedly exploited the trust of a nation for his own vile purposes."

Sue Proctor, lead investigator at Leeds General Hospital, described Savile's actions in the mortuary as incredibly "harrowing and disturbing". She added that back in the 60s, Savile boasted to a student nurse that he "went to the mortuary at night and played with the bodies, and committed sex acts on them. We have no way of verifying if that was true or not. We do know his interest in the dead was pretty unwholesome and that the controls around access to the mortuary up to the early 1980s were not robust."
