Jennifer Lawrence named highest grossing actor for 2014

It has been a bumper year for actress Jennifer Lawrence whose Hollywood star seems to continue to rise at a meteoric pace. She has been named by Forbes as the highest grossing actor for 2014 due to her roles in two hugely successful blockbusters.

Lawrence, who is still only a youthful 24 years of age, was a part of two of the biggest grossing movies of the year in Hunger Games: Mockingjay and X-Men: Days of Future Past which at the time of Forbes 2014 list had grossed $1.4 billion between them. That figure is also set to rise even further as Mockingjay is still in cinemas around the world continuing to do well.

As part of the Sony hacking scandal, figures released for American Hustle showed that male actors Christian Bale, Bradley Cooper and Jeremy Renner dwarfed Lawrence's pay check in what was seen as a personification of the gender pay gap which is prevalent in Hollywood. Topping the Forbes list shows that Lawrence can out-punch any actor in Hollywood regardless of sex.

Lawrence is set for another bumper year in 2015 with the final chapter of Hunger Games set to be released in November as well as a reunion with here American Hustle and Silver Linings Playbook director David O. Russell for his upcoming film Joy. The movie will feature Robert De Niro with Bradley Cooper also set to appear.

Second on the Forbes list was Chris Pratt who starred in two smash hits of his own, namely Marvel's Gaurdians of the Galaxy and huge success The Lego Movie. The top 5 is rounded out with Scarlett Johansson in 3rd place, mainly due to her roles in Captain America and Lucy, Mark Wahlberg in 4th place thanks to his turn in Transformers: Age of Extinction and in 5th place is Captain America himself Chris Evans.
