The last few years has seen the rise of the series. As films descend ever further into wooden dialogue, flimsy narratives and big budget effects, the rise of the cable channels in the US has seen superbly written, maturely paced, and sublimely acted masterpieces emerging. From HBO to Showtime, to AMC to FX, both the consistency and the creative output has been top class and now it looks like fantasy channel SyFy is about to enter the big budget fray.

They have just announced a brand, spanking new series from Oscar winner, Jamie Foxx who was last seen tearing up the Old West in Quentin Tarantiono’s Django Unchained. His Foxxhole Props production company has struck a deal with the channel that will see Foxx executive produce, write and direct a five episode run. Set to debut during SyFy’s 31 Days Of Halloween programming marathon this October, there are also rumours flying about that Foxx himself may yet take a small role in front of the camera.

The new series will be taking its cues from all time classics such as Tales From The Crypt and The Twilight Zone and looking to weave storylines around timeless themes like envy, jealousy and greed. Almost morality tales fired through a contemporary prism.

“This is a project that I’ve wanted to do for a long time and I’m so happy to see it come to life,” Foxx said. “Get ready to lose it when some special friends and I bring the scares this October, and who knows… maybe I’ll make a guest appearance or two along the way!”

Syfy’s Mark Stern, “Jamie Foxx’s passion and unique perspective will transform these universal insights on the human condition into emotionally potent and truly scary cautionary tales.”

Troy Miller from Flight Of The Conchords will executive produce the series through his production company Dakota Pictures, along with Foxx.
