'I'd rather be waterboarded'

The Transformers franchise has made stars of Shia Le Boeuf and Megan Fox, as well as millions of dollars for some lucky producers. But it might be about to break the fledgling acting career of one Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. Rosie is the stunningly beautiful Brit model, who was chosen to take over from Megan as the 'hot girl' (yep, feminism lives on) in Transformers 2, after Megan decided to compare director Michael Bay to Hitler. That now looks like a good career move from Fox, as the new Transformers flick has been resolutely panned.

The movie critic for the Boston Herald was most vociferous in his criticism of the film, writing, 'Given the choice between sitting through 154 minutes of Transformers: Dark of the Moon and being waterboarded, I plead: Waterboard me! Is this Transformers better than the first two? That’s like saying cyanide is better than arsenic because it’ll kill you faster.'

A.O. Scott in the New York Times said, 'I can't decide if this movie is so spectacularly, breathtakingly dumb as to induce stupidity in anyone who watches, or so brutally brilliant that it disarms all reason. What's the difference?'

And Rosie Huntington-Whiteley has been singled out for a mauling; Baz Bamigboye said, 'Huntington-Whiteley shows up in a figure-hugging, tighty-whitey dress but she's all window dressing and doesn't exactly excel at delivering her banal lines. Poor Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. She may be beautiful but she can't act for toffee.'
