Hugh's Freudian Slip

Over the past few years, Hugh Grant has earned himself a bit of a reputation as a lover of a good scrap - though usually the target is the humble paparazzi, trying to earn a crust snapping the actor as he pops out for ciabatta at his local Fulham deli. The victim this time was not the press, but millionaire PR guru Matthew Freud. Hmm, a well connected PR man, probably not the best person to pick a fight with...

The two middle aged scrappers were gathered to celebrate the birthdays of Topshop owner Philip Green, Michael Caine, shoe designer Patrick Cox and Tracey Emin's boyfriend Scott Douglas - a motley crue if ever we saw one. Back in the day, Matthew Freud used to represent Hugh Grant, but clearly things have deteriorated over the years. Hughie used a rude word to refer to Freud, and the PR man retaliated by grabbing a generous handful of chocolate cake and smearing it over the Four Weddings star. Matthew was thanked for his kind gift with a black eye.

A well heeled (and we'd guess, mature) female at the bash told the Daily Mail that Hugh was 'a total gentleman, a 21st century David Niven.' Lady, if that's your definition of gentleman, you need to meet some new friends...
