Heath Ledger: Posthumous Oscar for The Dark Knight?

Heath Ledger is being tipped to win a posthumous Oscar for his performance as the Joker in the forthcoming Batman film, The Dark Knight. The latest installment in the Batman franchise is set for release on July 18.

Ledger died from an overdose earlier this year at the tender age of 28. The Perth native received an Oscar nomination in 2006 for Brokeback Mountain but his performance in The Dark Knight is being talked about as the highlight of Ledger's tragically short career.

If he does win an Oscar for his interpretation of the Joker, Ledger will become only the second actor to receive a posthumous award from the Academy. Peter Finch was awarded the Best Actor Oscar in 1977 for his performance in Network.
