'He never tried it on with me...' Paul McCartney slams John Lennon gay claims

Sir Paul McCartney has hit back at potentially libellous comments made by Philip Norman, the author of a new Beatles book, claiming that his bandmate John Lennon wanted a gay relationship with him.

Former Wings bass player Macca told The Sun the allegation was false.

"I don't think [the gay claims] are true," he said. John never ever tried anything [on with me], I slept with him a million times. I've seen him on tour roaring drunk, out of his mind in the early days before he sobered up and went to rehab. Roaring drunk and it was always with a female, never once [with a man]. If you've got a little gay tendency and you're roaring drunk, I'd have caught him once."

As well as suggesting the legendary Beatle had a sexual appetite for Sir Paul, the book 'John Lennon: The Life' also implies Lennon fantasised about sleeping with his Mum.
