Harry pots of money

She has a certain magic. Everything JK Rowling touches turns to gold. Not least the child actors who had the great good fortune to be cast in the money-spinning Harry Potter movie saga.

It has emerged that Daniel Radcliffe, Harry in all of the movies, is sitting on a respectable fortune of around £31 million, making him one of the richest young men in Britain.

Radcliffe, now 22, is a canny investor, having used his substantial salaries from the movies to buy valuable properties in New York and Los Angeles. He also keeps £5 million in ready cash, just in case he fancies a shopping spree.

In truth Radcliffe has resisted the temptation to live it up, restricting himself to the occasional trip to Lords or the Oval to watch his beloved cricket. The nearest he gets to media saturation is appearing as a guest on Test Match Special.

A source close to the actor told The Sun, "Daniel is incredibly smart when it comes to his finances. Instead of wasting wads of cash on partying and material items like many young celebrities, he has focused on reinvesting in smart things like property."

Radcliffe himself is a little embarrassed about the material rewards. "I got paid so well for doing the Harry Potter films, it's ridiculous," he said in a recent interview. "I happened to have found this industry where people get paid stupid amounts of money. That's the reality. I feel almost guilty for having done so well out of Potter."

Almost.
