Happiest towns in the UK are up North

We're all off oop north. Londoners may mock life outside the capital, feeling there's no real point to life in places where you can't get decent Vietnamese food, an over-priced haircut and a wasabi mohito at four in the morning, but it seems our Northern brethren are happy enough where they are.

Cos according to the Daily Mirror eight out of the ten happiest places to live are north of the Watford gap.

Happiest of all is Powys in Wales, which shows there's no accounting for taste, but if you do live in the big smoke, you might want to try a weekend in Cumbernauld & Kilsyth, Cleethorpes or Macclesfield - you might just like it.
