George Michael jailed for eight weeks

George Michael has been sentenced to eight weeks in jail after admitting to crashing his Range Rover into a branch of Snappy Snaps at Hampstead under the influence of cannabis earlier this year.

The 47-year-old singer, real name Georgios Panayiotou, was arrested on July 4 at the scene of the accident and was later found to have a couple of Camberwell carrots in his pocket.

Police found the singer slumped at the wheel of his Range Rover allegedly ‘spaced out’ and with no memory of what had happened.

Michael, who had been cautioned for driving under the influence of skunk back in 2006, was jailed straight after Judge John Perkins delivered his guilty verdict at Highbury Corner magistrates court in north London.

The former Wham! singer also received a five-year ban from driving and a £1,250 fine.
