Friendly fired

Switch on Channel 4 or E4 at any given moment and you’re more than likely to come across an episode of interminable 90s sitcom Friends, which provides a great opportunity to look at Courtney Cox’s incredible expanding and contracting physique, which around the late 90s turned into a skeleton. However, soon those days will be over, as Channel 4 has ended its deal with Warner Bros to show the series, as of 2011. Sweet, sweet relief.

Amazingly Friends was still pulling in daily viewing figures of around 400,000. However, now it joins the pile of discarded fillers alongside Big Brother, Wife Swap and How Clean Is Your House lying outside C4’s HQ.

‘After 15 years, ten hit series and 236 terrific episodes it's time to say goodbye to old Friends and welcome new ones, in the form of more comedy, drama and entertainment from the US and UK,’ said Head of Channel 4 acquisitions Gill Hay.

‘We are incredibly proud to have been the home of Friends for so long, but at a point when the channel is undergoing a period of creative renewal it felt like the right time to part company.’
