Fred Talbot, the ex-weatherman for This Morning, has been charged with nine counts of indecent assault and one count of sexual assault. The 64 year old, who was best known as the weatherman who forecast from a floating weather map for ITV’s This Morning show, will appear on February 11 at Manchester Magistrates' Court.

The charges have been made brought by five victims, three of which were under 16 years old at the time the alleged offenses took place. The chief crown prosecutor for CPS North West, Nazir Afzal said: “We have carefully considered all the evidence gathered by Greater Manchester Police in relation to allegations from five complainants that Fred Talbot sexually assaulted them between the 1968 and 1983. Having completed our review, we have concluded that there is sufficient evidence and it is in the public interest for Mr Talbot to be charged with 10 sexual offences relating to five complainants, three of whom were under 16 years of age at the time.”

Talbot, who was first detained on April 9, is accused of six counts of indecent assault relating to one person who attended a Newcastle school at the time. The other indecent assault claims originate from three alleged victims who are former pupils at Altrincham Grammar School for Boys. The sexual assault charge also relates to a Altrincham Grammar School for Boys pupil.

Talbot is the latest in a long line of former TV and radio personalities being accused of sex related crimes. Dave Lee Travis is currently in the docs giving evidence at Southwark Crown Court after being accused of indecently assaulting 10 women and sexually assaulting another. The former Top Of The Pops presenter, who is being tried under his real name David Patrick Griffin, will also give evidence tomorrow.
