Fanny coming to our screens soon

Adapted from John Cleland’s classic novel by screenwriting legend Andrew Davies, Fanny Hill is about to set pulses racing on BBC Four. Following the sexploits of the eponymous heroine, the series stars sultry Rebecca Knight and stellar veteran Alison Steadman.

The book caused social and political outrage in the 1740s and 50s when it was originally published and then banned by parliament (for ‘corrupting the King’s subjects’). It was re-released by the author some years after it was censured, with even more naughty bits – including a scene where two gentlemen pleasure each other as Fanny watches through a hole in the wall. The story has been filmed several times – most notably by the legendary Russ Meyer in 1964.

This TV romp promises to be a real eye-opener!
