Eighty-five per cent? More like five

On Friday Natalie Portman’s fiancé Benjamin Millepied defended his wife-to-be, saying that ’85 per cent’ of the dancing in Black Swan was done by her. However, her double has come out said that this is a gross exaggeration, saying that she did only five per cent of the full body shots.

Sarah Lane, who has been a ballet dancer for 22 years, says that there would be no way that she would be able to do that amount of work, at that level, after only a year and a half, and she goes on to claim that the only reason that the makers of the film spun this story was to give the film more weight with the Academy.

‘Of the full body shots, I would say five percent are Natalie,’ she told Entertainment Weekly. ‘They wanted to create this idea in people’s minds that Natalie was some kind of prodigy or so gifted in dance and really worked so hard to make herself a ballerina in a year and a half for the movie, basically because of the Oscar.

‘I've been doing this for 22 years… can you become a concert pianist in a year and a half, even if you’re a movie star? From a professional dancer's standpoint, she doesn’t look like a professional ballet dancer at all and she can’t dance in pointed shoes.’
