Dr Who's sticking around

One of the pitfalls of being a Doctor Who fan was always having to part with a Doc just as you'd grown to know and love him - yes, we're taking about YOU Christopher Eccleston. But there's no danger of Matt Smith upping sticks and buggering off; in an interview to promote the new series which starts on Saturday, April 23, Matt vowed to stay with the hit show for a good few years.

Smith told The Sun, 'I am still the new boy. There's a long way to go if I'm going to cement a place in Doctor Who folklore like Tom Baker, David Tennant, Patrick Troughton and people like that. I take it year by year, month by month. We finish shooting this month so I'll sit down with Mr Moffat and we will decide where we go from there. But it's certainly not a part I want to give up anytime soon and I love playing it.'

Producers are hoping that Matt will play the Doc long enough to take part in the show's 50th anniversary special, in 2013.
