Depp to quit as Captain Jack Sparrow?

Johnny Depp has hinted that he may quit his role as Captain Jack Sparrow ahead of the fourth installment of the Pirates Of The Caribbean franchise.

The Hollywood heavy weight told the Los Angeles that he was "shocked and very sad" after hearing that Disney chairman Dick Cook had left the company and suggested that he may not appear following the shock resignation.

"There's a fissure, a crack in my enthusiasm at the moment... it was all born in that office," Depp said. Speaking about Cook the actor continued: "He said, 'We're thinking about doing this Pirates Of The Caribbean movie,' I said I was in. This was before there was a script or anything."

"When things went a little sideways on the first Pirates movie and others at the studio were less than enthusiastic about my interpretation of the character, Dick was there from the first moment. He trusted me."

Cook and Depp announced the title of the forthcoming Pirates film, Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, just last week and revealed that the plot will see Captain Jack searching for the Fountain Of Youth. But Cook's resignation appears to have thrown the future of the project into doubt.
