Critics' Choice Awards: American Hustle and 12 Years a Slave have 13 nominations each

The upcoming 19th annual Critics’ Choice Awards promises to be a two horse race with 12 Years a Slave and American Hustle leading the most nominations with 13 each. Both movies have been nominated for best picture, best acting ensemble, best director and best screenplay (or best adapted screenplay for 12 Years a Slave).

Both movies have strong casts so we’re not surprised that the Broadcast Film Critics Association’s annual awards has given nominations for Michael Fassbender, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Lupita Nyong'o from 12 Years and Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence and Christian Bale from American Hustle.

Other nominations for best picture include Captain Phillips, Gravity, Her, Nebraska, Saving Mr Banks and Inside Llewyn Davis. There weren’t any real shock omissions from the nominations list, although Tom Hanks (Saving Mr Banks), Joaquin Phoenix (Her) and Jonah Hill (The Wolf on Wall Street) would have hope for some recognition if their Oscar hopes are to be realised. The awards night is Thursday January 16th, so we’ll know who’s won these honours next week.
