Cowell rules out Cheryl's X Factor return

Simon Cowell has ruled out Cheryl Cole's return to the X Factor this year. Instead reports suggest he will double the salaries of new judges Tulisa Contostavlos and Kelly Rowland to ensure their return to the hit reality show next year.

An X Factor insider told The People that: 'Simon loves Kelly and Tulisa and there is zero chance of either of them losing their place on the panel next year.'

That would mean that N-Dubz singer Tulisa could see her pay cheque rise to £500,000 while Destiny's Child singer Rowland would be set to earn £800,000.

Fellow new judge Gary Barlow appears also odds on to return next year but veteran judge Louis Walsh's future on the programme could be in doubt according to The People.

There were fears that Cowell's decision to revitalise the judging panel this year could backfire. However, the X Factor was watched by a record 11.1 million viewers back in August with the public appearing to have already forgotten Cowell, Cheryl Cole and Danni Minogue.

The success of the new-look show and in particular the popularity of new judges Tulisa, Kelly and Barlow is good news for Cowell and has finally shut the door on the possibility of Cheryl Cole's return.

Although there were rumours that Cole would appear on the current series at a later date, the X Factor insider told The People: 'Simon believes Tulisa is the next Cheryl and will be even bigger. At first Simon was worried about Cheryl not being on the show but those worries have now disappeared.'

Cowell underlined his faith in the new judging panel during an interview on ITV 2's Xtra Factor last night: 'I think they’re great. Gary’s like a producer and he knows how to spot a star. Kelly, she’s like an athlete, and it’s this American professionalism – always, always on it. And Tulisa, she’s like the lippy brat, right? I like that. She’s bolshy. She has a good ear. I think they’re gonna do well.'
