Christina Aguilera takes a swipe at Simon Cowell

Christina Aguilera has been her usual diplomatic self, talking about American Idol. Aguilera is a judge on rival show The Voice, and has little respect for Simon Cowell’s abrasive personality.

Aguilera, not averse to the occasional bitchy comment, thinks talent shows should be more supportive of new acts. "I've not actually seen a full episode of any of the other music shows," she said. "I saw the commercials early on of American Idol of Simon being a dick. I was like, 'Man, that's not what it's about!' I didn't want to treat people like that. I wanted to do The Voice to show that we can be positive. We don't have to knock people down."

Aguilera was speaking at a Billboard/Hollywood Reporter forum on TV and Film in Los Angeles. When it was pointed out that she isn’t always sweetness and light herself, she argued that was a side-effect of succeeding in the music business. "I'm known for not always being warm and fuzzy, because you'll just get bulldozed over," she said.

She lamented the moderm media world in which bloggers and Twitter users throw up extreme reactions to a celebrity’s every move. "Now everyone is a critic," Aguilera said. "I don't read blogs. It's just God-knows-who in Buttf**k wherever writing hate sh*t. You can't take it seriously. I'm sure you've all been hated on at some point."

She was probably brooding on a dismal 2011 in which the blogosphere had a field day with Aguilera stories, including her arrest for public drunkenness and unfounded allegations that she was beating her child.
