Brad Pitt: I was boring not Aniston

Brad Pitt has claimed that comments he made about his five-year marriage to Jennifer Aniston have been misunderstood.

Speaking in an interview with Parade magazine this week, the 47-year-old suggested that before meeting his current squeeze Angelina Jolie he was leading a boring life 'trying to pretend the marriage was something that it wasn't.'

However, Pitt, who is currently promoting his new film Moneyball, has argued that his comments have been misrepresented by the media.

'It grieves me that this was interpreted this way,' the Fight Club actor said in a statement. 'Jen is an incredibly giving, loving, and hilarious woman who remains my friend.'

Pitt continued: 'It is an important relationship I value greatly. The point I was trying to make is not that Jen was dull, but that I was becoming dull to myself, and that, I am responsible for.'

The candid nature of the interview has had the interwb in a flutter over the last few days with many commentators shocked by the apparent harshness of Pitt's description of life with Aniston.

The Hollywood star had told Parade: 'I spent the '90s trying to hide out, trying to duck the full celebrity cacophony. I started to get sick of myself sitting on a couch, holding a joint, hiding out. It started feeling pathetic.'

'It became very clear to me that I was intent on trying to find a movie about an interesting life, but I wasn't living an interesting life myself. I think that my marriage had something to do with it.'

Pitt and Aniston were married in 2000 after dating during the late '90s. However, the couple split in 2005 not long after he finished filming Mr and Mrs Smith with Jolie.
